Join us for our First Adventure Safari! - Ocober 4th, 2008 - October 15th, 2008 You have asked for it and we have listened! Join us on this exciting adventure! This non-profit safari is organized by Bill Jordan Wildlife Defense Fund USA (BJWDF) Meet the orphaned elephants and keepers close up and personal. Learn how they are rehabilitated back into the wild. Enjoy a personal tour led by a Maasai tribesman and much more!
Detailed Itinerary: Day 1. - Arrival in Nairobi Arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, met and greeted with our traditional welcome style and escorted to Norfolk Hotel. Later, crown your mid-morning as you move to the elephant orphanage for a worthwhile visit to see the humanitarian care and heart it takes to rehabilitate baby elephants and other wildlife who have lost their mothers to death, injuries and poaching. It's the closest you get to an elephant and rhino safely! This evening, your tour manager conducts a safari briefing in readiness for your upcoming safari. Overnight at Norfolk Hotel, (Bed and Breakfast) Day 2. - Kitengera Conservation Area After a heartening breakfast, depart for Ormakau Maasai Village, which is one of the community Based Projects we support. On the way you will have a short break at Kitengela Town, (a town frequented by the maasai to buy their weekly rations), here you will have a chance of visiting a traditional cobbler who will teach you how to make custom designed tire sandals popularly known as "Jesus Shoe". After the lesson you will be confronted with a challenge of making your own shoe with the assistance and supervision of the cobbler and his assistants, the shoe will be given to you as a souvenir. After the challenging and enjoyable task, we will take you to Ormakau Cultural Village where you will be welcomed by the Maasai with a traditional dance, a local guide will take you round the village and you will have a chance of buying souvenirs from their market, here your bargaining power will be put to the test!
Later you will be taken on a nature walk, where the guide will explain to you how various trees were used for various uses. the nature walk will end at the point where you will open up your lunch boxes, which will be complemented with maasai barbeque meat. After your lunch, you will be taken by the maasai Morans on cattle herding expedition where you will learn techniques such as; protecting cattle from predators, counting them, milking and tapping drinking blood from cattle. After this unique and exciting venture you will board your tour buses for your drive back to Nairobi, as you board the vehicle a maasai Oloibon (Maasai ceremonial leader) will bless you and wish you a safe journey. Dinner and overnight at Norfolk Hotel, (Bed & Breakfast) Day 3. Tsavo East National Park This morning depart for Tsavo East National Park one of the biggest National Parks in Kenya, arriving at Voi Safari Lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon take a game drive in search of the "Red Elephant" of Tsavo, the elephants paint themselves red by wallowing in the red soil mud holes to protect themselves from hot sun rays and stings from external parasites. After the game drive back to the hotel for your overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Voi Safari Lodge. (Full Board) Day 4. - Tsavo East National Park After a sumptuous breakfast drive to an elephant orphanage where the older elephants after their stay in the orphanage in Nairobi are brought for re-introduction back to the wild. From here they are gradually reintroduced back to the wild by dedicated keepers, the keepers herd them in the wild and give them chances to interact with wild elephants and from here they make new friends, once the keepers are confident that they are bonded well with their new found friends they release them back to the wild. The head keeper will give a lecture on how they manage to do all this, you will have the opportunity of also bonding with a young elephant by blowing into its trunk, during its life time the elephant will always recognize you if you happen to meet again. After lunch you will undertake an afternoon game drive then return to your lodge for your overnight stay. (Dinner and overnight stay at Voi Safari Lodge - Full Board)
Day 5. Amboseli National Park Drive towards Amboseli National Park via Tsavo West National Park, en-route you will visit Mzima Springs and Shetani Lava Flow. Amboseli National Park lies due south of Nairobi, within clear sight of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain 5896 meters. The water of the mountain feed the seasonal swamps and marshes on which the game and birds, which live in the park, rely. It is here that if the weather is permitting you shoot a classic picture of the elephant or giraffe standing against the dramatic backdrop of the snow capped mountain. Arrive for lunch at your lodge. Afternoon game drive until sunset. (meals and overnight stay at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge - Full Board) Day 6 - Amboseli National Park Whole day Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drives. This park affords everyone's classic image of East Africa - herds of great animals moving across the dusty plains with the snowcapped peak of Kilimanjaro rising straight up in the background. Although it is situated inside Tanzania, the best views of the mountain are from Amboseli on the Kenyan side of the border. (All meals and overnight in Amboseli at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge - Full Board) Day 7. - Lake Nakuru National Park Depart for the "Pink Lake" which is home to over 2 million migrant flamingos via Nairobi where you will take lunch at Toona Tree Restaurant. Depart on an afternoon game drive in search of flamingos, endangered black rhinos and the leopard. (Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge - Full Board) Day 8. - Proceed to Maasai Mara Game Reserve (the new 7th wonder of the world) After breakfast depart for the famed and Kenya's finest game reserve - Maasai Mara Game Reserve to arrive in time for lunch. Lunch at the spectacular Base Camp, which is located on an owned by the local Maasai people alongside the Mara Reserve. This is prime wildlife country and from Base Camp this afternoon your will explore the surrounding savannah plains to seek out the huge variety of wildlife species for which the Mara is famous, in particular the large population of lions, (returning for dinner and overnight at Base Camp - Full Board).
Day 9. - Full Day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve Morning game drives in the game-filled plain of the Mara. This reserve gives you the opportunities to view the big five (Lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino) as well as hippo, and abundance of the plain games. After this you will be taken on a 1-2 hour walking safari through the savannah for wildlife viewing with the Maasai as guides and interpreters of their lands whereby you will walk amongst giraffe, impala, zebra and wildebeest. (Dinner and overnight stay at Base Camp - Full Board) Day 10. - Back to Nairobi and Depart After breakfast, say 'Kwaheri' - a swahili word for bye to Maasai Mara and leisurely drive back to Nairobi, arriving at around mid-day. This afternoon you will visit the historical Karen Blixen Museum - restored home of pioneer coffee farmer. You step back in time and gain an insight into this remarkable woman's life as you enjoy views of the Ngong Hills from the beautifully landscaped gardens of the museum. From history proceed to the Giraffe Center a wildlife conservancy and home of "Daisy" the Rothchild giraffe who starred in the movie "The Last Giraffe". Giraffes can be fed and observed, roaming freely, from a raised platform. Before departure you will have time to discuss the success of your trip with your tour manager who will award you a certificate to show that you traveled responsibly and touched the hearts of marginalized communities in Kenya. Later we transfer you to the airport for your home bound departure flight.(Half Board)
